North West manufacturers most optimistic about growth
Manufacturers in the North West are the most optimistic in the UK about growth over the next 12 months, according to new research from accountancy and advisory firm MHA.
MHA's Manufacturing Report 2026 found that 90 per cent of North West manufacturers expect growth of more than three per cent in the coming year, while more than half expect growth above five per cent.
The survey of 1,000 manufacturing leaders found confidence remains strong despite ongoing concerns around cybersecurity, supply chains and rising costs.
Businesses are continuing to invest in technology, with 51 per cent of North West manufacturers prioritising investment in new technology and IT systems.
Andrew Matthews, partner at MHA, which has offices in Preston and Lancaster, said: "Manufacturers remain optimistic, but that optimism is grounded in reality.
"Businesses are still dealing with geopolitical uncertainty, cost pressure and skills shortages, yet they are continuing to invest, innovate and plan for growth rather than retreating."
The report also found that only 15 per cent of North West manufacturers plan to reduce headcount, down from 21 per cent last year.
