Three members of WHN Solicitors’ team swapped law for leaves and soil during an afternoon of community volunteering with Ramsbottom Civic Pride to mark Mental Health Awareness Week last Thursday.
The national week-long event is organised annually by the Mental Health Foundation and designed to bring the UK together to focus on good mental health. The theme of this year’s event, which took place May 12-18, was ‘community’.
The community planting initiative to mark this year’s theme took place on Thursday and was organised by Catherine Ryder from the registry team at the firm’s Haslingden office.
She was joined by Caroline Potts, tax and trust manager at WHN’s Haslingden office and Melan Muchegwa, paralegal at WHN’s Bury office.
The afternoon saw the team of three, alongside other volunteers from Ramsbottom Civic Pride, planting in the gardens and walled planters surrounding St Paul’s Church in the centre of Ramsbottom with flowers that were donated by WHN.
Catherine said: “WHN’s directors encouraged us to take part in community initiatives to recognise the community theme of Mental Health Awareness Week. My sister-in-law is involved with Rambsottom Civic Pride and so I knew they were holding a volunteering day on Thursday.
“It was brilliant to spend time with my colleagues giving back to one of the local communities WHN operates in. People from local shops and cafes came to support with food and drink and there was a real sense of togetherness – it’s definitely opened my eyes to giving back through further volunteering initiatives!”
