Crime agencies across the world are battling the global threat to the economy posed by highly sophisticated cyber crooks.
And while police continue their international fight, on the home front it is vital that businesses play their part by being alert and vigilant, she adds.
“At the end of last year, the National Crime Agency reported on its involvement in an operation with 29 other countries to dismantle ‘Avalanche’, a network used by cyber criminals to send malware infected emails.
“December also saw arrests regarding the use of ‘Dridex’, a malware that uses macros in Microsoft Office to infect computer systems.
“Once a computer has been infected with the macros, access can be gained to client and customer information including banking data.” Sian says it is clear from these cases that cyber-crime continues to be “a prevalent threat to the economy and private users.”
