A remarkable half tonne of essential food and household items has been donated to Maundy Relief through #AmazingAccrington business leaders and contacts, and now other local businesses and community groups are being urged to get involved to help support families in need this festive season.
The substantial donation, which included cereals, canned goods, pasta, biscuits and more, was presented to Maundy Relief by #AmazingAccrington chair, Murray Dawson.
With demand for support rising sharply this year and donations falling due to the tough economic climate, #AmazingAccrington is calling on businesses across Hyndburn to get involved. Maundy Relief has 15 boxes ready to be delivered to participating businesses, giving staff the opportunity to fill them with essential items before Maundy Relief returns to collect the completed donations.
The most urgently needed items include UHT milk, coffee, biscuits, tinned meat and fish, soups, tinned beans and vegetables, pasta, rice and pasta sauces.

Murray Dawson, chair of #AmazingAccrington, said: "At this time of year, when so many families are feeling the pressure, it’s vital we pull together as a community. The generosity shown so far is incredible, but we know Maundy Relief needs continued support. I urge all local businesses to get involved, even a small contribution can make a huge difference to a family this Christmas."
Teresa Fitzjohn, Drop-in manager at Maundy Relief, said: "I want to give a massive shout out and say a massive thank you for this donation. #AmazingAccrington have done it again, it's been a long while since we've had one this big.
“Please can I ask local businesses to support us. Things have been slow this year, families are desperately suffering for their children, especially at Christmas, so if anyone can get together and just give as much as you can, it will be greatly appreciated."
Maundy Relief is well known across Hyndburn as a frontline response charity, offering immediate support to anyone in crisis. Their services cover physical, mental and emotional wellbeing, ensuring help is available for those who need it most.
