Matthew Bostock etched his name further into Fort Vale Colne Grand Prix history on Tuesday night, claiming a remarkable third victory in the town as spectators lined the streets for an incredible evening of elite cycling action.
The Rapha Cycling Club rider, who previously won in Colne in 2019 and 2024, produced another commanding performance to take victory in the Fort Vale National Open Race, crossing the line six seconds clear of Aaron King (Wheelbase CabTech Castelli) and DAS Richardsons Frank Longstaff.
As the opening round of the Lloyds British Cycling National Circuit Series, the Fort Vale Colne Grand Prix once again attracted some of the country's top riders and delivered an unforgettable evening of racing around the town-centre circuit.
The evening began with a heartwarming moment as members of local cycling club Cyclesport Pendle took to the course for a pre-lap race, receiving warm applause from spectators before the elite racing got underway.
The action officially started with the Bradson Construction Youth Race at 5:45pm, with young riders competing across a number of age categories on the town-centre circuit.
In the Youth A races, Daniel Shipton of Harrogate Nova Race Team took victory in the Open category, while Katie Lawson of Secret Training CC claimed the Youth A Female title. The Youth B Open race was won by Harry Patterson of 360 Cycling, while Harriet Sleightholm of Clifton CC secured victory in the Youth B Female category.
Racing continued with the Fort Vale Nuclear Support Race at 6:25pm, with Huw Owen of Clwb Beicio Egni Eryri taking first place.
Attention turned to the highly anticipated Fort Vale National Women's Race at 7:20pm.
The women's race delivered excitement from start to finish as Emma Jeffers enjoyed a successful return to Lancashire, taking victory for Liv AlUla Jayco in a thrilling sprint finish.
Jeffers crossed the line ahead of two-time Team Pursuit World Champion and European Games gold medallist Megan Barker, while Sophie Lewis, who has enjoyed recent success in Colne, completed the podium places.
The evening concluded with the Fort Vale National Open Race, providing a spectacular finale packed with speed, attacks and drama. Bostock's victory secured his third Colne Grand Prix title and further cemented his affinity with the historic race.
Beyond the racing, the event created a vibrant festival atmosphere throughout the town. Local businesses opened their doors late to welcome visitors, with venues including Colne Market Hall, About Coffee, Live Like the Boy and many others benefiting from the increased footfall generated by the event.
Matthew Bostock, three-time Colne Grand Prix winner, said: “It was amazing, I always enjoy coming here and it’s always nicer to win. It’s a really flowing course and you can really get into your rhythm, favouring the attacks and going full gas, and that’s what I did.”
Len Woffindin, event organiser, said: "It has been an excellent night of racing with some fantastic racing in all four races.
"We have had great crowds, especially near the market hall which is another good addition to Colne. Everybody has enjoyed themselves, the weather has been kind to us and thank you to everyone who has contributed to the event.”
Nathan Cutler, events and facilities ifficer at Colne Town Council, said: "It was fantastic to see Colne so busy and vibrant throughout the evening.
"Spectators were able to enjoy world-class cycling right in the heart of the town, while many visitors also took the opportunity to support local businesses, cafés and shops.
"Events like the Fort Vale Colne Grand Prix are a great way of bringing people together, showcasing our town and creating a memorable experience for residents and visitors alike."
The Fort Vale Colne Grand Prix once again demonstrated why it remains one of the highlights of the British cycling calendar, combining elite sporting competition with community spirit and a celebration of everything Colne has to offer.
The Fort Vale Colne Grand Prix is organised by Colne Town Council and CDPP (Cycling Development Pendle Partnership).
