Social responsibility in the spotlight

Ram Gupta Big Interview

Sustainability, the race to net zero and a growing focus on social responsibility are all occupying the minds of increasing numbers of Lancashire business leaders.

The May/June issue of Lancashire Business View, out now, highlights some of the important and ground-breaking work being undertaken in the county to address the issues and the steps being taken by companies of all sizes to ‘do business better’.

Special features in issue 110 of the magazine include a look at the rise of the B Corp movement, which is just one way that companies are tackling the challenges and seeking to make a positive impact.

B Corp businesses change their legal articles to consider the impact of their decisions on people and the planet alongside profit. The B stands for ‘benefit for all’.

Lancashire Business View, the independent voice of business in the county, has talked to a range of companies that have achieved the status to discover what it means to them.

Ram Gupta, pictured on the cover and the subject of its ‘Big Interview’, also takes the view that business has a responsibility to ‘do good’ in its community.

The founder of Lancashire tech company Nybble puts it in simple terms: “No one is going to remember you for your bank balance”. He shares his business philosophy and mission to make a difference in a fascinating interview.

The journey to net zero is also inspiring many businesses to think and work differently. In its look at the green economy, the magazine examines the plans of the Budweiser Brewing Group, which operates the county’s biggest brewery at Samlesbury, to build a state-of-the-art ‘green hydrogen’ production facility, which will save up to 11,000 tonnes of carbon dioxide each year.

Ged Henderson, Lancashire Business View editor, said: “Sustainability, the race to net zero and a growing focus on social responsibility are issues that are becoming increasingly important to our readers and that is highlighted in our latest edition.

“The initiatives, opportunities and aspirations that we are reporting on have come about because businesses have asked a simple but vital question: ‘Is the world better off because we are in it?’

“It’s a question that we’ll also be addressing in our next issue, out in early July. It will have full coverage of our Lancashire Net Zero Carbon Conference taking place next month, where we will be looking in detail at the opportunities and challenges associated with achieving a sustainable and low-carbon future.”

Along with its regular features, the 80-page May/June issue also features full, in-depth coverage of the 2023 Red Rose Awards, celebrating the very best of the county.

The multi award winning bi-monthly print magazine is at the heart of independent media group Lancashire Business View.

Its stable of media products also includes a daily updated website; an innovative facility for readers to self-publish stories; and bulletins issued to more than 9,000 online subscribers. Across its platforms, 50,000 readers and followers are served.
