Accrington’s town centre was buzzing with excitement this Halloween as over 2,000 shop visits were generated during this year’s #AmazingAccrington Halloween competition, the biggest and best yet.
Families and trick-or-treaters descended on the town, collecting stamps, sweets and smiles as they explored the participating outlets in their incredible costumes.
The Halloween trail has become a much-loved annual tradition, designed not only to bring some spooky fun to the town centre but also to encourage families to visit local shops they may not have explored before.
With dozens of children and families taking part, the event showcased the strength of community spirit and the fantastic independents in Accrington.
Participating outlets included Elsie’s Café, Happy Cats Hyndburn Rescue, Althams Travel, Frankie’s Café, Hyndburn Food Pantry, Kraken Kollectables, Scales of the Basilisk, Jo’s Vintage Coffee Bar, the OASST shop in the Arndale, Acorns of Lancashire, Barbara Kays, Sweet Child of Mine Kidswear, Geeks ’n’ Gizmos and Café Ri-An.
Sponsored by Hyndburn Borough Council, the event challenged young trick-or-treaters to collect stamps from shops across the town centre for the chance to win some fantastic prizes.
This year’s lucky winners were Faria Siddique, aged 7, who scooped a £50 cash prize for first place; Penelope Coyne, who won two Accrington Stanley tickets in second place; and five-year-old Lucas Molineux, who took home a delicious Halloween-inspired hamper for third place.
Councillor Kimberley Whitehead, deputy leader of Hyndburn Borough Council, said: “It’s been absolutely wonderful to see so many families enjoying the #AmazingAccrington Halloween trail this year. The turnout has been fantastic, and the event has brought a real buzz to our town centre.
“It is great to see #AmazingAccrington and local businesses collaborating to draw footfall into the town and offering a free attraction for half term week.
“Local businesses have told us how much they loved seeing new faces through their doors, it’s events like this that really make a difference for our community and economy.”
Murray Dawson, chair of #AmazingAccrington, said: “This year’s Halloween trail was the biggest and best yet, we had bags and bags of entries, and the response from the public was just incredible. Seeing so many families having fun, supporting local shops and getting involved really shows what #AmazingAccrington is all about.”
Sean Mason from Café Ri-An, said: “Thanks everyone for making the Halloween trail such a huge success! Amazing costumes, amazing turn out, congratulations to all the winners. We thoroughly enjoyed it!”
