A crowd of book lovers gathered at Accrington DOME this week as the Groves family hosted a successful book reading and gin tasting evening.
The Lancashire-based tech entrepreneurs and authors behind the gothic thriller Series of Silence, welcomed guests from across Accrington and the surrounding area for an evening of live readings, conversation and locally sourced gin – Moorside Craft Gin.
The event coincided with an exhibition at the DOME celebrating Lydia Becker, one of the founding members of the suffrage movement.
Becker’s childhood home was Moorside House in Altham - the very same historic property that inspired The Series of Silence, adding a unique local and historical connection to the evening.
Visitors had the chance to meet co-authors Heath and Kelly Groves, along with their children Jericho and Eden, in what is a true family writing project. Also making an appearance was the family dog, Lydia - who features in the book - delighting guests on the night.
Guests heard excerpts from the gripping psychological series and learned more about the inspiration behind the books, rooted in the history of the family’s Lancashire home. They also sampled the gin, with the explanation of how they came to launch their own branded gin.
Heath Groves, a former tech entrepreneur and Army Reservist, has spent more than a decade developing The Series of Silence alongside his family, creating a trilogy-of-trilogies spanning three centuries.
Heath said: “Thanks to everyone who attended the reading event at the Accrington DOME. A great time was had meeting our readers, giving them some background and history on the books – and we were able to sign their copies! The gin went down nicely too with lots of positive feedback.”
The event highlights the growing local interest in the series, with further book launches planned and momentum continuing to build around the family’s unique storytelling project.
The Silence We Hide and The Silence We Share are available now on Amazon, Kindle and Audible, with The Silence we Reveal scheduled later this year and The Dark Quarters in early 2026.
