Training 2000

Blackburn College has announced the acquisition of apprenticeship training provider Training 2000.

The programme, which is already based in the town, has transferred from the University of Lancashire, and will see all staff and current apprentices continue as planned.

Founded more than 60 years ago, Training 2000 has supported thousands of apprentices and employers across a wide range of sectors. From advanced manufacturing and engineering to professional services and higher technical qualifications, the organisation has built a strong reputation for delivering high-quality training and developing future talent.

Dr Fazal Dad, principal and chief executive of Blackburn College, said: "This is a hugely positive moment for both organisations and for the employers, apprentices and communities we serve.

"Training 2000 has an outstanding legacy spanning more than six decades, and we are proud to build upon that success.

“By bringing together the strengths of both organisations, we will create one of the strongest apprenticeship and technical education offers in the region.

"This partnership secures a bright and sustainable future for Training 2000 while expanding opportunities for learners and employers.

“It enables us to invest further in skills development, support economic growth and ensure businesses have access to the talented workforce they need.

"Employers and learners will benefit from a broader range of apprenticeship programmes, enhanced facilities, specialist resources and clear progression routes from apprenticeship through to higher education and professional careers."

The close relationship between Blackburn College and the University of Lancashire will continue, ensuring progression pathways into higher education and degree apprenticeships remain available to learners.

Prof Graham Baldwin, vice chancellor of the University of Lancashire, said: "The University is pleased to transfer Training 2000 to Blackburn College, an organisation with an excellent reputation for delivering high-quality education and skills training in a key part of Lancashire.

"Our longstanding partnership with the college has demonstrated a shared commitment to supporting learners and employers across the region.

“We are confident this transition provides the strongest foundation for the future success of Training 2000 and the continued growth of apprenticeship provision in Lancashire."

Karen Soames, head of business development at Training 2000, said: "This is an exciting development for Training 2000, our apprentices, employers and staff.

"Joining Blackburn College ensures continued investment in high-quality training, first class facilities and the excellent learner experience for which Training 2000 is known.

"As part of a larger educational organisation, apprentices will benefit from wider progression opportunities, access to additional expertise and an even broader curriculum offer, while employers will continue to receive the high-quality service and support they value.

"Our priority throughout this process has been to ensure continuity for apprentices, employers and partners. Learners will continue their studies on the same timescales and at the same locations, and we are working closely together to ensure a smooth and successful transition."

Training 2000’s headquarters will remain on Harwood Street, Blackburn, and all staff will transfer to Blackburn College.
