Flower power to bring colour to Burnley

The Burnley Business Improvement District (BID) will be harnessing flower power over the coming months to help bring further vibrancy to the town’s streets.

Through a number of projects, some of which to be carried out with town centre partners, the organisation is aiming to add extra colour to a number of areas to make them even more welcoming for visitors.

One element of the plan will see the BID issue businesses with plants which will be placed at the front of their premises during opening hours.

At present Burnley BID is finalising the logistics of the initiative and will be contacting their members shortly to see who would like to take part.

Alongside this, wildflower gardens will be utilised to catch the eye of passers-by and add vitality at three locations.

Visitors will be able to see these springing up over the summer months on Bankfield, Centenary Way and close to The Landmark, while the BID is hoping to link up with Burnley College to carry out some of the planting too.

Elsewhere, Manchester Road is set to benefit from the addition of railing baskets, with the final details of the scheme being discussed by Lancashire County Council and Burnley BID.

A key route into the centre of Burnley, the installation of flowers on Manchester Road will provide visitors with a colourful welcome to the town.

And activity under the theme of greener and cleaner doesn’t stop there either, with the BID set to work alongside town centre partners once more to try and help Burnley retain its ‘Gold’ status as part of the Britain in Bloom awards.

Burnley Council, Charter Walk, Burnley College and Burnley BID will all be involved in a range of initiatives that will focus on increasing the number of plants and features in the town centre in an effort to impress the competition’s judges again.

Work in line with this is still in its infancy but details will be revealed over the next few weeks.

Speaking about the plans to get Burnley blooming, BID project manager Andrew Dean said: “We’re looking forward to bringing a number of town centre streets and areas to life through flower power once again this year and can’t wait to work alongside town centre partners to make it happen.

“Both in-person and online the BID has received so many positive comments about plants and floral displays and we know they do have an impact on how people perceive the town when they visit.

“It would also be amazing for Burnley to secure another Gold award too as part of Britain in Bloom as not many towns have been able to achieve that accolade!”
