Blackpool Airport has bought a new 40,000 litre above-ground bulk fuel tank as it continues to push forward with its plans to invest in infrastructure and boost fuel capacity.
The tank, supplied by Fuel Proof Ltd of Morecambe, arrived in early October and is undergoing final commissioning before being brought into service in the coming weeks.
Purchased to increase the airport’s bulk storage capability, it complements the existing two 55,000-litre underground JET A1 tanks.
While it will initially carry JET A1 fuel the tank has been purpose-built to allow a quick transition to Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) as demand increases.
Steve Peters, airport director, said: “This is another important step forward in our development and the new tank increases both our capacity and flexibility, allowing us to adapt quickly as the aviation industry continues its journey toward more sustainable fuels.
“It not only strengthens our current operations but also helps to future-proof the airport’s refuelling infrastructure to align with our long-term plans.”
The tank’s modular, above-ground design also means it can be relocated once plans for the new fuel farm, which are part of the wider airport masterplan development, are finalised.
Blackpool Airport is already a thriving hub for corporate, offshore, medevac and general aviation, offering aircraft handling, engineering, refuelling and flight training services as well as executive lounges and crew facilities.
