Leyland Trucks has opened applications for the 2026 intake of its award-winning apprenticeship scheme, with 21 places available for aspiring engineers, technicians and business professionals.
The UK leader in advanced engineering and commercial vehicle manufacturing will welcome new apprentices in September 2026, with opportunities available across eight business and automotive disciplines.
These include a range of four-year degree apprenticeships in Design Engineering, IT Software Engineering and Supply Chain, alongside Level 4 programmes in Automotive Engineering, Facilities & Maintenance, and Fabrication & Welding, plus a Level 5 role in HR. In addition, 10 places are available on the three-year Assembly Operator advanced apprenticeship.
The apprenticeship scheme offers a practical route into the automotive industry, giving young people the chance to build real careers within a global business.
Leyland Trucks has a proud history of training and employing young people from the local community.
Many senior members of the team began their careers as apprentices and, having progressed into leadership roles, now act as mentors – ensuring each new cohort develops skills that reflect both the needs of the business and the future direction of the industry.
Apprentices will also gain exposure to emerging technologies shaping the sector, including battery electric vehicles (BEVs).
Maria Rogers, learning and development manager at Leyland Trucks, said: “We’re delighted to open applications for this year’s apprenticeship scheme - one of our most varied and exciting programmes yet.
"If someone brings ambition and commitment, this programme gives them everything they need to build a successful career in our industry.
“From technical expertise to communication, time management and critical thinking, our apprentices develop skills that will benefit them for life.
"We also introduce them to cutting-edge manufacturing and sustainable truck technology, which means we’re not just preparing individuals – we’re investing in the future of the industry itself.
“Year after year, our apprentices go on to build secure, rewarding careers. We’re proud to invest in the next generation who will one day become the backbone of our business and the wider region.”
Cameron Atkinson, who completed an Automotive Engineering apprenticeship, added: “Applying for the Leyland Trucks apprenticeship nearly four years ago was one of the best decisions I’ve made.
"The programme has given me a strong foundation for the future and allowed me to work across, departments including data analysis, manufacturing, quality assurance and new product development.
“I’ve also developed strong communication and teamwork skills, working closely with people across the business.
"My advice is to start your application early and really personalise it – be clear about what drives you and what you want to achieve. Don’t put it off – you could miss out on an amazing opportunity.”
To apply, candidates should complete an online application and the final deadline for applications is 1st March 2026. Applicants will be contacted by 20th March with shortlisted candidates invited to interview from 30th March – 10th April.
