Yorkshire Building Society Charitable Foundation has donated £1,000 to a Lancashire-based charity as part of its support for charities across the UK. The charity received the donation from Yorkshire Building Society Charitable Foundation after being nominated by colleagues at the Society’s Preston branch for financial support.

Age Concern Central Lancashire is a multi-award winning charity and one that is proud of its reputation and Lancashire based heritage amassed across 40 years. The charity is well-known for providing dementia care and support within the county in addition to a wide variety of services aimed at helping people to live well and age well.

Operating two Dementia Day Care Centres, one in Fulwood and the other in Bamber Bridge these fantastic facilities are staffed by caring experts in the field of Dementia. Service users and their carers benefit from a stimulating and safe environment where they can spend time in a safe pair of hands, allowing their family and carers the opportunity of much needed respite.

The £1,000 donation to Age Concern Central Lancashire has been used to purchase Memory Boxes which will be used both in the centres and within the households of service users and their families. As restrictions lift it is the intention that a therapeutic loaning library will be created whereby the boxes can be requested by the families for use at home whilst leaving enough of the boxes within both of the  day centres for all to use.

Kim Reynolds, manager of Yorkshire Building Society in Preston, said: “We are proud to be able to support Age Concern Central Lancashire in our community in Preston with a donation from Yorkshire Building Society Charitable Foundation. The work that they are doing to support people with memory concerns and their carers is providing a real benefit to their lives.”

Alison Turner, head of dementia services, said: “We are really thankful for the donation from Yorkshire Building Society Charitable Foundation this will help us support even more people outside the walls of our centres. As soon as possible our free Dementia Community Links service will be taking the boxes out in communities and engaging with people who are isolated in their homes through therapeutic reminiscence activities to enable them to stay at home for longer.”

If anyone would like to know more about the boxes including how to access them please contact the Dementia services team on 01772 968996.

Yorkshire Building Society Charitable Foundation is funded through the Small Change Big Difference® scheme where members donate the pennies from the interest on their accounts just once a year to help smaller charities around the UK.

In 2020, the Charitable Foundation donated £419,915 to 359 registered charities nominated by members and colleagues from around the UK.
