Fylde’s business community is celebrating fantastic results after 78 local firms received free expert support through The Small Business Academy in just six months.
Funding for the scheme has also been secured until March 2026 to help more local businesses.
The programme, funded by Fylde Council’s UK Shared Prosperity Fund allocation, has already transformed prospects for dozens of local enterprises, delivering tailored action plans that are helping businesses across the borough expand, innovate and create new jobs.
From ambitious start-ups taking their first steps to established companies ready to grow, The Small Business Academy offers completely free, one-to-one support that’s making a real difference to our local economy.
The programme's ambition was perfectly showcased at October's Rock and Revolution Conference, where the legendary Bank of Dave shared his inspiring story with Fylde businesses, providing valuable connections and renewed motivation for growth.
This energy is now being channelled through initiatives like the Women's Scaling Up Programme, which is delivering over 30 hours of intensive support to 12 hand-picked female founders already thriving on the Fylde Coast.
Participants from businesses including Rathmore Care, Yogi Group, Serendipity House and Ridgeway Farm are benefitting from one-to-one coaching, DISC profiling, leadership training and peer networking, culminating in an adventurous outdoor team-building experience in January.
With 39 businesses benefitting from bespoke growth plans since April, the programme is building momentum across Fylde's vibrant business community.
Two new enterprises have already been created through the support, with many more in the pipeline as the programme gathers pace.
Councillor Karen Buckley, leader of Fylde Council said: "This is exactly the kind of practical support our local businesses need to thrive and create opportunities right here in Fylde.
"Every business that grows stronger means more jobs, more investment and more prosperity for our community. I'd encourage any business owner who hasn't yet taken advantage of this brilliant free resource to get in touch today."
Nikki Hesford, managing director of The Small Business Academy, added: “It’s been a pleasure to see Fylde businesses taking advantage of the support on offer and using it to level up their organisation, taking on extra staff, new premises and developing new income streams.
“I think we all know it’s not the easiest of economic conditions to run a business right now, but so many are still thriving by being adaptable, learning new skills and finding smart ways to protect their margins with the help of esteemed business coaches on our programme.”
The Small Business Academy continues to welcome applications from Fylde businesses of all sizes and sectors, with expert advisors ready to provide everything from strategic planning to practical guidance on entering new markets and adopting new technologies.
