Burnley architect in running for Forty Under 40 accolade

Burnley architect Saira Hussain is in the running in this year's Forty Under 40 United Kingdom Awards.

Saira, who founded independent architectural practice HAD & Co, launched her first practice in Burnley and, under her leadership, the firm has grown and now has offices in Blackburn and Manchester.

The awards recognise exceptional young leaders who are shaping the future of their industries through innovation, leadership, and a commitment to excellence.

HAD & Co provides solutions in architecture, planning appeals, building control, heritage work, change of use, and certificates of lawful development.

Beyond her practice, Saira regularly lobbies government departments and key stakeholders to influence business and policy. Her firm has also received formal recognition from Burnley College and Manchester College for exceptional employer contributions to student development.

Saira said: "Being named a finalist for the Forty Under 40 United Kingdom Awards is an incredibly humbling moment. I am immensely proud of my roots in Burnley, where I started this journey.

"My career has been built on navigating a traditionally male dominated industry while
balancing the intense demands of raising three young children. It has not always been easy, but I am driven to push through the barriers that often constrain women in this field. I hope this recognition serves as a powerful message to other young women: your ambition is valid, your voice is necessary, and you belong at every table you choose to sit at."

The Forty Under 40 Awards is an internationally recognised platform that celebrates young
leaders across various sectors. The UK winners will be announced at a gala ceremony on
November 8, 2026, at The Hilton Paddington Hotel in London.
