Waste haulage firm Monk Contractors is driving ahead with growth plans by expanding the company’s fleet and staff numbers after signing a contract with Lancashire Renewables.
Details of the cost of the tender have not been revealed but it is believed to be a multi-million-pound deal.
The Mellor Brook-based waste haulage firm has invested £7m into offering a new fleet of 35 vehicles for Lancashire Renewables.
Chris Monk, managing director of Monk Contractors, said: “It is fantastic news as we have secured revenue for the next five years.
“We had a contract with them five years ago and there were some big names in for the contract this time and we are delighted to have won it for another five.
“Last time there was 30 vehicles working there and now it will be 35 including three articulated tankers for transporting their dirty water.
“We supply them with the vehicles and will maintain for them for next five years.”
Chris praised Leyland-based Lancashire Renewables for sealing the deal with a local business.
He said: “Lancashire Renewables are a very good company and we work well together.
“We have proven to them we can do the job and they have put faith in us for another five years.”

Chris says they can look ahead for the future as the 30 vehicles from the Lancashire Renewables contact ‘will be incorporated into the hire fleet’.
He added: “It helps us to invest more and we are taking on extra fitters now so it is boosting employment without a doubt.
“We employ 101 people but looking to increase that by 10 because of the new contact.”

Chris was buoyant about the industry.
He said: “People keep putting rubbish in the bins and it keeps us busy.
“When there are recessions, it quietens down slightly but we are fortunate position that people keep producing waste every day and the population is growing all the time.”
