The Robinson, a recently refurbished business hub in the centre of Blackpool, has won Best Refurbishment at the Blackpool Civic Trust Awards 2026.
Held annually, the Blackpool Civic Trust Awards recognise the best building projects and civic activities in the area. The awards promote high standards in architecture and design while encouraging community involvement and local development.
This award recognises the collaborative work that has restored this historic landmark. Originally the Stanley Buildings was designed in the 1930s by visionary architect John Charles Robinson, who designed many of the town’s iconic buildings including the Derby Baths, South Shore Open Air Baths, Stanley Park’s Art Deco café, and the Technical College on Palatine Road.
Rebranded as The Robinson in his honour, the building offers a modern business hub, which is designed to support the growth of local businesses while respecting the character and heritage that make the building so iconic.
Appointed to work on the strategic marketing plan and development of the new brand identity, was Blackpool based marketing and branding specialists, Happy Creative.
From brand strategy and visual identity through to interior branding, wayfinding, artwork and thoughtfully named rooms, Happy Creative developed a cohesive brand experience, which enhances the architecture of all the meeting rooms, coworking spaces, offices and communal areas.
Working closely with Bev Wood and her team at BWD Limited, they ensured that brand and interior design evolved hand in hand. Bev’s team ensured that materials, furnishings and layout decisions were aligned with the overarching identity, creating a seamless connection between the building’s physical environment and its visual story.
The finished offices, meeting rooms and co-working spaces capture what The Robinson now represents: collaboration, creativity and community, all housed within a beautifully restored, award winning, historic Blackpool building.
As strategic marketing partner for Blackpool Council’s Academy initiatives, Happy Creative’s involvement in The Robinson further demonstrates their commitment to supporting Blackpool’s business growth through thoughtful marketing and brand design.
Karen Lambert, founder of Happy Creative, said: “We’re incredibly proud that The Robinson’s refurbishment has been recognised with the Best Refurbishment Award, and even prouder to be able to say that Happy played a role in its journey.
"It’s a powerful example of how heritage buildings in Blackpool can be thoughtfully reimagined through strategic branding, creative design and collaboration, without losing the character that makes them special.”
