Driving down our emissions with eco-friendly alternatives

At Fagan & Whalley, we’re constantly on the lookout for innovative solutions that allow us to conduct our business in the most environmentally friendly way possible.

For this reason, we’re pleased to announce that after introducing Linde Material Handling forklifts at our Frontier Park and Burnley Bridge warehouses, we have made a significant reduction in our carbon emissions.

This positive change comes thanks to the Linde forklift’s highly efficient lithium-ion batteries – which have not only helped us protect the environment but have streamlined our daily operations and increased our efficiencies, too. In essence, we’re forging a path towards a greener future without compromising our productivity and progress.

Achieving an impressive reduction in emissions

After integrating the new technology into our Frontier Park warehouse back in February 2022, and subsequently into Burnley Bridge in November 2022 – their positive impact on our daily operations has been clear since day one. Being much smaller in size, they immediately enhanced manoeuvrability allowing for increasingly flexible and dynamic operations.

However, it’s only over the last few weeks that we’ve been able to crunch the numbers regarding the impact the lithium-ion-powered equipment has had on our carbon emissions. The result? Impressive, to say the least!

Our transition across both sites has saved a fantastic 11,930kg of CO2 from being released into the atmosphere. To put this into perspective, this is the equivalent of removing a car that would have covered 53,888 miles from the UK’s roads. That’s approximately equivalent to driving around the earth’s circumference – twice!

Let’s take a quick look at how each warehouse is doing…

Green Progress Across Our Warehouses

Since November, Burnley Bridge has seen a total decrease in CO2 emissions of 33.75 per cent, saving over 3,345.2 kg of CO2.

Meanwhile, our Frontier Park warehouse, which has been making use of the lithium-ion powered technology for over a year now – has seen an astonishing saving of over 8,585kg of CO2 from being released into the atmosphere.

These results are a testament to our dedication to making a positive impact on the environment through mindful business practices.

Improving our efficiency

But that’s not all, as well as reducing our carbon footprint, the new equipment has also played a pivotal role in increasing the efficiencies of our warehouses.

Matt Giles, who is head of warehousing here at Fagan & Whalley, remarked, “Our operations have seen a significant shift with the introduction of the new Linde forklifts.

Unlike our previous manual handling equipment that demanded a two-hour daily investment merely for charging, the new machinery incorporates a highly efficient ‘flash charging’ system. This technology has significantly streamlined our operations, and we couldn’t be happier.”

The future is green at Fagan & Whalley

Matt added, “Sustainability is one of our core values here at Fagan & Whalley. And whilst we’re exceptionally proud of our emission reductions, this is just the beginning for us.

There are plenty of plans in the works for further green initiatives as part of our wider goals of passing down a brighter future for future generations to follow in our footsteps. For now – watch this space!”
