Accrington Stanley will pay tribute to the nation’s Armed Forces and emergency services with a special gesture of appreciation at their home fixture against Bristol Rovers on Saturday November 15.
As part of the club’s Remembrance Day tribute, all serving and former members of the Armed Forces, as well as those working in the Police, NHS and Fire Services from across Accrington, Burnley, Blackburn and Preston, are invited to attend the match free of charge.
To receive a complimentary ticket, eligible individuals are asked to email [email protected] in advance. On the day, attendees must wear their uniform, medals or service badges.
The matchday will feature a poignant pre-kick-off tribute, including a fitting tribute from the world-famous Accrington Pipe Band, who will pipe the Royal British Legion flag bearers and the players onto the pitch, while local Cadet units will also be part of the tribute.
A spectacular display of poppies including both sets of fans, arranged by the Official Accrington Stanley Supporters Trust (OASST), will also form part of the commemorations.
Warren Eastham, Accrington Stanley chief executive, said: “Remembrance is a hugely important time for our community, and we’re proud to show our gratitude to those who serve and protect us every day.
“Offering free entry to our military personnel and emergency services staff is a small way for us to say thank you for their dedication and sacrifice. We look forward to welcoming them to the Wham Stadium for what promises to be a very special occasion.”
This year’s Remembrance Day fixture will honour all those who have served, past and present, with fans and players joining together in a moment of reflection before the 3pm kick-off.
Accrington Stanley are also hosting a special service with wreath laying at the Wham Stadium on Sunday 9th November at 12:45pm, with members of the general public invited to attend at the club’s Accrington Pals Memorial Garden.
