Thompsons Contracts goes green with solar power

Setting an inspiring example of sustainable energy use, Thompsons recently installed commercial solar panels on the rooftop of their head office in Blackpool.

As part of their drive towards incorporating greener solutions within their infrastructure, the solar panel installation showcases Thompson’s commitment towards curbing carbon emissions and promoting a cleaner, healthier environment.

Installation

Utilising all of the available south facing roof aspects it was established that approximately 88kW worth of solar panels could be installed. The array is connected to the grid via 2 x 40kW inverters housed within the plant room and took less than 2 weeks to install.

Technical Information

Electrical consumption Prior to Solar installation: 130,000kWh/annum
Installed Solar Capacity: 88kW
Projected yield from installed solar: 63,456kWh/annum

Net Rate of return on investment: 25 per cent
System Performance warranties (manufacturer) 25yr – 80 per cent original performance

Completion Commissioning and Performance

The System is now up and running with almost no ongoing maintenance. Remote monitoring is provided through the manufacturer’s online portal. This provides information on site consumption as well as generation performance.

Boasting a remarkable 25 per cent return on investment, the system will fully recoup its costs within four years. This investment not only pays for itself but also ensures a sustainable source of green energy for the business in the years ahead.
