With energy costs continuing to rise, the Blackpool Net Zero Business Academy are encouraging more local businesses to explore the benefits of voltage optimisation to reduce energy waste, cut costs, and lower carbon emissions.
The Academy’s Sustainability Specialists, Megan Tucker and Caitlin Sanderson, have been working directly with businesses across Blackpool to help them reduce their carbon footprint and save on energy bills through the installation of a voltage optimiser.
A growing number of businesses are turning to voltage optimisers to help reduce energy waste and cut electricity costs.
The devices, which are connected to an electricity meter, regulate the incoming voltage to ensure appliances receive only the electricity they need.
Most appliances and systems operate efficiently between 220 and 250 volts. However, fluctuations in supply can mean that many are fed more electricity than required, leading to energy waste between 10 and 20o. Without optimisation, the excess electricity is often returned to the grid.
Voltage optimisers work by adjusting the incoming power supply, ensuring that only the necessary voltage is used.
This not only improves efficiency but can also extend the lifespan of electrical equipment, which is proving to be making a huge difference in larger energy-intensive environments, like manufacturing facilities, factories and production lines where machinery is running all day.
Voltage optimisers are also effective in smaller businesses such as salons, office spaces and holiday homes.
Megan Tucker said: “The savings can be significant, and the great thing is it doesn’t require you to change how you operate. Once installed, the optimiser does its job behind the scenes.
"On average, businesses can be looking at saving somewhere around 13 per cent on their energy bills, just from reducing waste.”
As part of the Blackpool Net Zero Business Academy’s ongoing work to help Blackpool businesses on their journey to Net Zero, they are monitoring energy usage before and after installation to build a clearer picture of the impact.
So far 20 per cent of businesses who received a grant from the Academy chose to put their funding towards a voltage optimiser.
Caitlin Sanderson added: “We’ve already helped lots of local businesses understand what voltage optimisation can bring, and we’re proud to be supporting Blackpool businesses to become more energy efficient and more sustainable.
"It’s not just about ticking a green box, it’s about building resilience, reducing costs, and making real progress towards a low-carbon future.”
The Blackpool Net Zero Business Academy are encouraging Blackpool based business, wanting to improve their energy efficiency and save on energy bills, to get in touch for tailored advice and support on installing a voltage optimiser.
