Snooker giants in town for golf competition
Snooker giants are set to swap their snooker cues for golf clubs in January, when they take part in a special Charity Golf Day, to raise money for the Paul Hunter Foundation.A host of big snooker names, including world champions like Steve Davis, John Higgins, Shaun Murphy, Mark Williams, Ken Doherty and Graeme Dott have already signed up to take part in the Charity Golf Day, which will take place at Accrington Golf Club on January 23, 2014.
Lancashire Business View is acting as media partner for the event. Organisers are now looking for eighteen teams of three people to take part, with a snooker professional making up each team to four. The cost to enter is £500 per team and there will also be an auction for teams to bid for the snooker pro they most want to make up their golf team of four. Spectators are also welcome; tickets are £5 if purchased advance via the website, or £10 on the day and will be limited to a maximum of five hundred. The event opens at 9.30am with refreshments before the tournament begins with a ‘shotgun’ start at 11am, where each team starts at the same time from one of the eighteen holes. After all the friendly competition on the greens, the teams will be welcomed back to the clubhouse for a well-earned rest where a luxury buffet awaits them. There’ll also be the chance to mingle with players and take part in an auction with the chance to win a range of unique sporting memorabilia, plus a car.
Organiser, Tony Dobson, said; “We’ve organised the event on January 23 as it's the day before these top snooker players will be appearing in Blackpool. They all like a round of golf and so we thought it would be a novel idea to mix up the two sports to create a team sporting challenge where people get to play golf and meet their snooker heroes. We’re so grateful to the snooker pros and the Golf Club for giving their time so generously to raise money for this fantastic cause."It’s set to be a great day, and so please register your team now and help us raise as much money as we can for the Paul Hunter Foundation.”
All proceeds from the charity golf day will go to the Paul Hunter Foundation which was established in 2006 in memory of Paul Hunter to give disadvantaged, able bodied and disabled youngsters an opportunity to play snooker.
