One year after a change of name and brand identity refresh, Lancashire-based Life Lab is celebrating significant growth in turnover, increased production capacity and accreditation success.
The business, formerly named Blackburn Distributions, changed its name to Life Lab in 2023 to communicate more effectively its offering, which includes the manufacture and supply of health and sports supplements.
Since the brand refresh, Life Lab’s customer base has grown by 35 per cent, turnover has increased by 15 per cent and profitability continues to grow by double digits.
Recent success coincides with expansion to a larger, brand-new manufacturing facility at Vision Park in Burnley. The move has enabled the business to expand its manufacturing offering, with production capacity of capsule products having risen by 268 per cent.
Ben Blackburn, CEO of Life Lab, said: “This past year has been transformational for our business – in terms of capitalising on the high levels of growth in the supplements sector.
“The new brand identity has made a real impact in our key target markets and the move to Vision Park has been key in delivering on the increased demand for our products.”
Following relocation to the new state-of-the-art facility in Burnley, Life Lab achieved compliance with Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP) – a standard which focuses on the production processes of medicine manufacturers. To further enhance product formulation, it is also innovating through the application of artificial intelligence (AI) in product development processes.
Sustainability features high in key areas of focus for Life Lab, with the business having achieved its initial scope one and two sustainability objectives and now working towards scope three targets. A recent collaboration with University of Central Lancashire has also further enhanced the manufacturing facility’s environmental controls.
Ben adds: “Whilst the past year has been really impressive, I’m even more excited for what the future brings for our team – with a major product launch happening soon and plans for further streamlining of our manufacturing operations. We’re now looking ahead to the next phase of our ambitious growth plans.”
Within the coming months, the business intends to launch a brand-new product that promises to completely transform the supplements market.
