Lustalux's Innovative Journey in the Window Film Business

Lustalux has been at the forefront of the window film industry for 30 years, leveraging its extensive product knowledge and vast customer installation experience to innovate and surprise clients with unique solutions continuously. Despite their long history, the company remains open to new ideas and collaborations, as evidenced by a chance conversation at the start of 2023 with the head of design for a large, nationwide chain.

The Spark of Innovation

In 2023, Lustalux was approached by the head designer for Boots Chemists with a unique request. They sought a high-impact window film that would align with the brand's vision for a high-street store refit. This request inspired Lustalux to combine their popular textured reeded film with bright, impactful colours, creating a new design concept. The coloured Reeded Window Film is a unique product for Lustalux, allowing them to modify the popular film to a colour of your choice. This was the final piece needed by Boots in their nationwide store rebranding.

Launching Lustalux at Home

This innovative spirit was not new to Lustalux. In 2021, the company launched Lustalux at Home, a division focused on bespoke window films that catered to the creative needs of their clients. George Lancaster, a key figure in this division, utilised the latest window films and advanced printing technologies from HP large format business printers to push the boundaries of what was possible. This led to the creation of unique hybrid window films that stood out from standard offerings by high-volume manufacturers.

Successful Client Collaborations

The custom-finished window film developed for Boots was a hit, leading to its adoption in a national refit across all Boots high street stores. This success significantly boosted the financials for Lustalux at Home, reinforcing their reputation for innovation.

George Lancaster had previously pioneered unique finishes for other high-profile clients. Lustalux at Home has supplied decorative window films that in the last year have been seen on Disney+, Netflix’s The Crown, ITV and BBC.

Steady Growth and Popular Products

Lustalux at Home has experienced a steady linear growth curve thanks to the hard work of George and his team. Their most common products include frosted-style window films in both plain and patterned finishes. Additionally, the team has produced a range of reproduction stained glass film designs, scaled to suit each order. The combination of skilled staff and a bit of luck has helped the business fulfil almost 10,000 orders in a couple of years online.

Looking Ahead

Lustalux and Lustalux at Home continue to explore the possibilities within window film products and commercial print technologies. Their innovative approach and willingness to embrace new challenges suggest that even more groundbreaking developments are on the horizon for 2025 and beyond.
