Marsden Building Society is urging employers to strengthen financial support for their workforce through an accessible savings initiative.
It comes after the Department for Work and Pensions released data in March 2026 showing an additional half a million people are now living in households earning below 60 per cent of the national median income, bringing the total to 13.4 million.
Marsden Building Society say the findings reinforce the vital role employers can play in encouraging healthy saving habits.
Jilly Bell, savings development manager at Marsden Building Society, said: “Employers are in a unique position to support their people through a simple initiative that enables employees to save directly from their salary, post-tax and other deductions, before it hits their bank accounts.
“Building a good savings habit is a crucial skill that could prove vital when faced with an expected cost in the future.
“As financial pressure continues to grow, workplace savings are no longer a ‘nice to have’, we believe they’re an essential part of supporting employee well-being.”
