Magento or WordPress – Which is the right platform for your website?

Businesses that are willing to step in to online business or online presence, there are two most popular platforms available to choose – Magento or WordPress.

By Web Leap Solutions.

These two are big hitters and have their own pros and cons but final decision depends on the specific needs of your business.

Before you make a decision, the main questions you need to ask yourself are: What is nature of your business? What is objective of having a website? Are your selling products or promoting your services? How quickly are you planning to expand your business? The answer to above questions will help you to come to a conclusion as none of these available platforms can be whole heartedly chosen to be the best for all types of businesses, rather the decision of choosing depends upon various aspects like the functionalities the online store demands, scale of the business proportion and of course the business model.

To make things little bit simpler, we’ve laid it all out for you to review each platform.

Magento:As we all know, Magento is a well-known as being top in the eCommerce world and one of the world’s most powerful open-source eCommerce solutions. It’s been around for a long time and a wide user base of over 200,000 businesses currently using Magento as their platform.

The major advantage that you get from Magento is no matter what your specific sales platform requirement, there’s every chance that an add-on plugins to tackle your situation. Whereas on other platforms, a little customised work is required. With various payment integration options and custom pricing functionality, Magento is specially designed and developed for eCommerce.

Magento offers a level of functionality and customisability that provides merchants with the flexibility and control to create online stores that fit their business needs while also supplying powerful features like marketing, multi-store management, mobile commerce, business reports, search engine optimisation, and catalogue-management tools. Magento’s CMS facilities also support the creation of complex content pages, version control, and menus – much like WordPress.

WordPress:WordPress has been known for its famous blogging domination. Around 20% of the web uses WordPress websites for the most popular content management system. You will be surprised to know that even eBay Inc., which owns Magento, uses WordPress to publish their blog.

The clear advantage that WordPress holds is its absolute simplicity and the fact that it’s very user-friendly. Its interface is intuitive while commanding at the same time. Even non-technical people tend to find it easy to get started.

What do they have in common? Both are Open Source platforms Both are available for FREE Both are adaptable to be customised with hundreds (or thousands) of themes Different themes can be designed and incorporated to change the look of the website Both are available with masses of extensions / plugins Both are SEO friendly Both are powerful enough to help you take over the world!

So which platform should I use? There is no right or wrong answer to this question but understanding the background of the two platforms may help to make the decision. Web Leap Solutions Ltd believes the best solution really does depend on your specific business requirement.

As we have learnt, both platforms are content management system; it is evident that Magento is developed specially for eCommerce as its functionality is tailored towards the business structure and selling online. If your business goal is to sell products online, then Magento is your answer.

If you want to drive your business website predominantly to post content or blog, and you don’t expect to offer any products on sale, then WordPress is the most acceptable choice for you.

However, consider very carefully how you want your online shop to function now and in future. Gauge whether you’re capable of doing a bit of coding, or whether it’s best to leave it to the experts which help you to concentrate on expanding your business further.
