Chorley grants up for grabs

Businesses in Chorley can now benefit from thousands of pounds worth of funding to help their companies grow and create new jobs.

Chorley CouncilChorley Council has just launched the Chorley BIG (Business Investment for Growth) grant where firms can apply for up to £10,000 of grant funding.

It is the latest in a package of measures set up by the council which has pledged to help strengthen the local economy.

Councillor Alistair Bradley, Chorley Council leader, said: “The grant is aimed at creating jobs first and foremost, with funding being available for capital investment projects such as new buildings, adapting existing premises or buying new plant or machinery.

“Our vision is to strengthen the local economy - we already have a range of support services in place to aid start up businesses and this new grant enhances the support available to existing businesses. This will in turn create new jobs which will open up more opportunities for our residents to find well paid work.”

The BIG grant is targeted at small and medium sized enterprises that have been trading for more than six months and that intend to grow and create new jobs. The grant can provide up to 50 per cent of the project cost, up to a maximum of £10,000.

Councillor Bradley said: “We already have several businesses applying into this fund for a range of projects including the purchase of new plant and machinery, and building alterations. The grant contribution will help these businesses invest in their expansion plans in the short term and provide valuable job opportunities as a result.” In the last 12 months the council has appointed two business advisors to offer help and support to new and existing businesses, approved almost £100,000 of business grants and subsidies and launched a number of networking and information events in the town.
