Fagan and Whalley achieved two AA+ BRCGS ratings in an unannounced audit

We are excited to share that our Frontier Park and Burnley Bridge depots recently earned an outstanding AA+ rating during an unannounced visit as part of our annual BRCGS Storage and Distribution audit.

This recognition was awarded by the Brand Reputation Compliance Global Standards (BRCGS).

While we have proudly maintained an AA rating at both sites for the past two years, the unannounced audit presented a new challenge – one we are particularly proud to have met with such success.

What is an unannounced BRCGS audit?

An unannounced audit is exactly what the name implies: an auditor from the BRCGS arrives at our sites without prior notice, and within thirty minutes, they must begin their inspection on the shop floor.

Our warehousing team immediately rose to the occasion, demonstrating the exceptional efforts we put into ensuring our operations consistently meet the highest standards of food safety and hygiene.

The outcome? An impressive AA+ rating – the highest possible certification from the BRCGS – validating our unwavering commitment to excellence in food safety, hygiene, and operational standards across all our facilities.

What do the AA+ BRCGS ratings mean for us?

It’s incredibly reassuring to know that our clients and their customers can continue to trust us to handle their products with the utmost care and attention.

At Fagan & Whalley, we proudly partner with a variety of brands in the food and beverage industry.

From biscuits and chocolates to soft drinks and snacks, the variety of food products we store and distribute is vast – each requiring meticulous handling to ensure quality and safety from our facilities to their final destinations.

This AA+ BRCGS certification is incredibly special to us, as it reflects the dedication and hard work our team puts into ensuring that our warehousing and distribution circuits meet the highest standards of food safety and hygiene.

We have meticulously designed our operations to give our clients the utmost confidence in the integrity of their products and would like to thank our team for their consistent commitment to excellence in all that we do.

Martyn Richardson, head of compliance, said: “Receiving the AA+ rated BRCGS certification truly highlights the hard work put in by our team every single day.

"Given our history as AA-rating holders and our confidence in our processes and systems, the team responded calmly and confidently to the unannounced visit.

"Their readiness and professionalism during the audit both validated our current practices and showcased how consistent we are across all of our operations.”

Martyn added: “As soon as a product enters our network, it is entirely traceable, meaning we can keep clients updated with their stock and distribution figures, act quickly in the case of any product recalls, and reassure end-consumers that their products are of the highest quality.

"The AA* rated BRCGS certification goes a long way in reassuring our clients of these high standards, and is a real source of pride for everyone here at Fagan & Whalley.”

What is the BRCGS?

For those unfamiliar, the BRCGS (formerly the British Retail Consortium) sets international standards for food safety, used by over 26,000 suppliers in 130 countries.

These standards ensure that we meet regulatory requirements for the safe storage and distribution of food products, preventing cross-contamination and safeguarding the end consumer.

At Fagan & Whalley, we are proud to offer specialist BRCGS and Soil Association warehousing services to clients across all industries, including those within the food sector.
