We’re proud members of the Road Haulage Association!

As proud members of the Road Haulage Association (RHA), Fagan & Whalley are dedicated to supporting the growth and success of the UK’S haulage industry - and our membership with the RHA is a testament to this.

In October, one of our Directors, Sam Fagan, was appointed as an RHA Board Director, granting him a deeper understanding of the challenges and opportunities faced by the wider haulage industry. Leveraging Sam's recent board position and our long-standing affiliation with the RHA, we’re incredibly honoured to be able to actively participate in initiatives that promote safety, efficiency and sustainability within the haulage industry.

Additionally, our RHA membership aligns with our commitment to supporting the well-being and success of our drivers, who are essential to the success of Fagan & Whalley as a whole.

What is the Road Haulage Association?

The RHA is the UK’s only trade body solely dedicated to commercial vehicle operators across the truck, coach and bus sectors. Boasting a membership of more than 8,500 individuals, the organisation collaborates closely with the government and local authorities to advocate for the interests of the industry and strive towards securing more favourable outcomes for its members.

What areas does the Road Haulage Association campaign across?

The RHA campaigns to benefit commercial vehicle operators covering a wide range of areas, including but not limited to:

Skills - They work closely with training providers, educational institutions and the UK government to help make careers in logistics an attractive option for school leavers - in essence, creating the next generation of home-grown HGV drivers. In addition to this, they’ve worked to tackle the HGV driver shortage by hosting HGV skills boot camps, as well as taking an interest in our very own Fagan & Whalley, Future-bound driver training scheme.

Facilities - The RHA gives a voice to the real people and drivers that make up the commercial driving industry. Part of their work involves advocating for improved roadside facilities for drivers, better truck stops, increased numbers of safe HGV parking spaces across the UK and better access to showers and hygiene facilities.

Environment - Furthermore, as the world shifts towards a greener future, the RHA also plays an important role in championing the industry’s move towards Net Zero vehicles, Clean Air Zones and greener technologies. Simultaneously, the RHA has been lobbying the government extensively to take into account the needs and challenges faced by SMEs as they adapt to new green regulations, as many industry members feel that these concerns have been disregarded by government officials.

Infrastructure - Knowing that commercial vehicle operators are crucial to keeping the UK economy and supply chains alive - the RHA campaigns tirelessly for improved road infrastructures across the country. They emphasise how road congestion results in longer journeys, decreased productivity and increased emissions.

Costs & Regulation - The RHA also campaigns to reduce fuel costs, encourage unified HGV speed limits across the UK and modify the current road transport tax system.

Why does Fagan & Whalley love being a member of the Road Haulage Association?

Here at Fagan & Whalley, our drivers, clients, and customers are at the very heart of our identity and mission. We understand that their well-being, satisfaction, and contentment are essential to the success of our business, and we value their contributions tremendously. Without them, we could not provide the high-quality services that we do. It’s for this reason that we hold the work of the RHA with such high regard - as they provide our team here at Fagan & Whalley an opportunity to make our voices heard by decision-makers.
