Tread carefully with your tyres

There are few more unpleasant sensations than walking in uncomfortable, low-quality shoes. And just as nobody wants to be limping along on account of substandard footwear, no reasonable motorist wants their driving to be undermined by defective tyres.

For example, poorly inflated tyres take a vehicle much longer to stop and they make it more difficult to control when going around corners. If your vehicle is pulling to one side, it could be a sign of uneven tyre wear.

Safety must always be the prime consideration at all times, but there is also quite literally a price to pay for driving on poor tyres. As well as eroding more quickly, damaged tyres will result in increased fuel consumption.

And if you get caught with bald tyres, you can be fined, your licence can be endorsed with up to six points and, in the event of an accident, your insurance company may not pay out as your vehicle was not in 'legal condition'.

The best way to avoid such problems is to ensure that your tyres are fitted properly, balanced and aligned correctly and inflated to their correct levels.
