Whether you've never had a website, you need a new improved platform for your business, or you need a separate website built for another strand of your business, it is important to carefully consider who you are going to employ to mark you on the online map.

Finding a website company you can trust in is crucial in getting a website that does everything you need. It's important to find a company that understand you and your business, and what's going to help your type of business grow. You need a company that you can build a relationship with, talk to confidently throughout the process, and who'll guide you with your best interests at heart.

Have a look at the website company's portfolio to see what they have created for other clients. If you're unsure about anything, send them an email. Most website companies are happy to chat to you before you commit. If you have something specific in mind, ask if they have any examples of that kind of work.

Ask about usability: a good website company will have a website's visitors firmly in mind, and these days they should know about making websites mobile-friendly, and will be hot on Search Engine Optimisation. Have a read through their blog and social media, too; do they seem like they know what they're talking about?

There are various different fields within the website industry. For instance, a website designer usually gives the whole package, where as a website programmer will solely code the website and make it run smoothly.

A graphic designer will deal with the aesthetic and branding of the website, and an internet marketing consultant is there to help with your online marketing strategy.

A good website will grow with your business. Find out how the website company you plan to go with intends to sustain your relationship together: whether they will charge extra for any further work, or whether they'll help you take control of your own website, so you can make any necessary updates yourself. Ensure the website company you choose have a vast technical know-how, so you'll have peace of mind that your website is in the hands of experts.

Your online presence is as important, if not more important than all of the other aspects of your business. So make sure you give some serious thought as to who you want to handle it – they're essentially handling the difference between your business becoming more successful or not, after all.
