The departments of Fagan & Whalley - A look into our warehousing operations

A vital part of our distribution network, our warehousing facilities in Lancashire offer much more than safe storage for the products of our clients. Providing over 250,000 sq. ft, of BRC- and Soil Association Organic-accredited space, our warehousing facilities are offered for storage alone, or in combination with a robust transport and distribution plan, skilfully executed and maintained by our dedicated teams as part of a complete logistics solution for our customers.

“When the company was first established, now almost a century ago, the team were concentrating their efforts on providing reliable and efficient transport and haulage services for customers in the local area and across the Northwest,” explains F&W Head of Warehousing, Matt Giles.

“Our reach has steadily grown over the years, and as we’ve welcomed more customers on board, which are diverse in the services they provide and the type of industries they work within, we’ve seen a marked increase in the demand for storage space.

“Whilst we had a functional warehouse at our original warehousing depot, acquired in 2006, those facilities soon reached capacity. At that point, we set out to expand the warehousing services offered to our customers, and we invested in the development of our own purpose-built warehouse at Burnley Bridge, which was incorporated into the F&W infrastructure shortly after the company’s 90th anniversary in 2017.

“Since then, we’ve embarked on plans to further expand and develop our services, beginning with a company restructure at the beginning of this year which was set into motion in order to facilitate further growth. We also reviewed the performance of our warehousing and cross-dock facilities and recognised that they had been operating at capacity for some time, and so, in line with our plans for further expansion, we set out to transform our Burnley Bridge warehouse into a 24-hour operation, which has now been successfully implemented, as well as incorporating additional warehousing facilities into our infrastructure with the acquisition of the new site at Frontier Park in Blackburn, due to be fully operational by mid-September of this year.

“Our UK-wide transport and distribution services go hand in hand with our storage and warehousing facilities to enable us to offer a complete logistics solution, which is of great benefit to our customers as, not only is the whole supply chain then managed under one roof, but in excluding any third-party organisations, our team has complete control over the management and movement of stock, allowing for increased reliability and efficiency. We’re also very flexible in our approach, and can provide a wide range of services, from bulk storage of non-palletised goods, to the complete management of a stock control and order fulfilment system, and our customers seem to value this adaptability.”
