Solomon Commercials has been given the green light for a major expansion at its Kingsway site.
It will pave the way for a £14m investment that will safeguard and grow skilled employment in the borough for decades to come.
Solomon Commercials acquired 11 acres of land next to its existing Kingsway headquarters in 2025.
Founded in December 1976, Solomon Commercials is a family-owned Rossendale business with deep roots in the valley.
It employs 450 people, making it the borough’s largest employer and one of the UK’s largest manufacturers of temperature controlled vehicles.
Solomons operations are based in Rossendale and Darwen and the proposed build will reduce vehicle movement between sites and improving operational efficiency.
The approved development will deliver our purpose-built facility comprising a 40,000 sq ft production and warehouse building with mezzanine, a 17,600 sq ft office building, and 175,000 sq ft of external storage space.
Anthony Clegg, managing director at Solomon Commercials, said: “With deep roots in the Rossendale area, securing this land allows us to protect the future of our business and continue providing secure employment for our 450 employees, while reaffirming our long-standing commitment to the local community.”
The development will also support long-term job creation, with the company forecasting 100–120 new roles over the next five years, alongside further growth beyond that period.
The new headquarters will include training and apprenticeship facilities, reinforcing Solomon Commercials’ commitment to developing local skills and career opportunities.
“This is by far the biggest investment we have ever made,” Mark Solomon added.
“We are fully committed to this valley, and this decision gives us a fair chance of being here for another 50 years.”
