Leading holiday park operator, Pure Leisure Group, has donated £100,000 to St John's Hospice in Lancaster, helping to fund vital community nursing services across North Lancashire and the South Lakes.
The significant contribution will enable the hospice to deliver more than 4,000 hours of specialist care in the community and support the salaries of three full-time Hospice community nurses for a year, further strengthening the Hospice’s ability to care for patients in their own homes with essential medical care, symptom management and emotional support.
St John’s Hospice is a vital organisation providing palliative and end-of-life care to people living with life-shortening conditions, supporting both patients and their families at some of the most difficult times in their lives.
Demand for its community nursing services continues to grow as more patients choose to receive end of life care in the comfort of their own homes.
John Morphet, owner of Pure Leisure Group said: “St John’s Hospice plays an extraordinary role within our community, providing compassionate care and support to families when they need it most.
"We are incredibly proud to continue our donations to the hospice for a third year and to contribute towards expanding their community nursing team.
“Knowing that this donation will help fund three nurses to care for people in their own homes is incredibly meaningful to everyone at Pure Leisure.
"Supporting organisations that make such a profound difference locally is something we are deeply committed to, and we would like to take this opportunity to whole-heartedly thank St John’s Hospice for everything that they do.”
The £100,000 donation was presented to St John’s Hospice including nurses, Patrons and members of the wider hospice team at a gathering at South Lakeland Leisure village, Pure Leisure Group’s flagship park.
Guests were treated to canape’s, refreshments, complimentary ice cream from Wallings and drinks from Red Bull and voluntary contributions to the charity on the day raised an additional £325.58.
The donation marks the third consecutive year of support from Pure Leisure Group, bringing the company’s total contribution to the charity to £250,633,91.
Sue McGraw, chief executive, St John’s Hospice added: "We are so lucky to have the very kind and generous support of Pure Leisure Group.
"Their interest and support of the Hospice ward, Hospice at Home, Night Sitting and Day Respite is truly inspiring; John and his team always enjoy meeting members of the St John's nursing team to find out more about our work.
"This is the third year Pure Leisure has supported the St John's care of patients and their families, and we are extremely grateful and thankful to John and the team for their significant commitment and support."
The St John’s Hospice community team are a vital part of hospice care, helping patients manage symptoms and remain in familiar surroundings while receiving expert support.
Putting it into perspective, the £100,000 donation to St John’s Hospice will pay for 1,190 visits from two Hospice at Home specialists who bring care, compassion and treatment to someone who has decided to spend their last weeks at home.
