Blackburn partners Richard Bulcock and Kelly Shepherd are both achieving success in the Construction industry after studying at Blackburn University Centre.

Richard, who graduated BSc (Hons) Construction (Building Surveying), is now working as a Chartered Surveyor for Cowan & Co Building Consultancy in Euxton.

Meanwhile, Kelly has progressed on to BSc (Hons) Construction Project Management at the University of Salford after studying Blackburn University Centre’s Construction and the Built Environment Higher National Certificate (HNC).

Richard, 52, said: “I chose to study my degree at Blackburn University Centre because it is a modern educational establishment and geographically close to where I live. This was ideal as it meant I could condense my course into two days a week and study around my work commitments.

“I have enjoyed learning from great tutors who have lots of industry experience. I also enjoyed the smaller class sizes and the productive and supportive student cohort groups.”

He added: “Blackburn University Centre has prepared me for the future by increasing my knowledge in all aspects of Construction including Pathology, Surveying, Contracts, Project Management and Contracts Administration – which are all core skills.

“The tutors were very encouraging and helped me achieve my goals through their supportive nature. They used blended learning where they combined face-to-face and online teaching and pushed us to make the most of the web-based Moodle resources.”

Kelly, 41, said: “I chose to study at Blackburn University Centre because Richard was studying the BSc (Hons) Construction course there and I found it very interesting when he told me about it. I was working in Housing at the time.

“What I liked most about the course is that it gave me the confidence to continue my Higher Education in Construction by progressing on to a degree. I started the course with basic knowledge but left with a solid foundation.

“I really enjoyed the smaller class sizes at Blackburn University Centre because it meant the learning experience was personalised due to more one-to-one time with the lecturers.”

In 2020, 1 in 6 Honours students graduated from Blackburn University Centre with a First Class Honours degree.
