North West is 'perfect breeding ground' for tech startups

A new report from London Tech Week and UK Tech Cluster Group has found that the North West is perfect for tech start-ups.

There is an increasing number of local angels and inward investment which, together with a thriving tech community, has resulted in the North West forging new paths in the tech sector.

This comes after Manchester's fast-growing tech sector overtook Cambridge for the first time prior to Christmas and holds second place to London in terms of tech investment.

The city has a growing e-commerce industry and the tech sector continues to grow, with venture capital investment increasing year on year. As a technology hotspot, investment activity continues to grow which has resulted in the digital tech sector in Manchester alone employing more than 100,000 people in 2019 according to data from ONS, Tech Nation.

The new data on the tech industry demonstrates the region's credentials in the sector which is becoming the most attractive region for tech start-ups and tech investment, with Manchester alone reaching $687.6m in venture capital investments in 2019.
