Crow Wood, the multi-award-winning hotel and spa resort in Burnley, is striding toward a greener future with the installation of over 2,200 ground-mounted solar panels, courtesy of Low Carbon Energy, a leading local commercial solar panel installer.

The 1,127kWp solar installation will generate an impressive 981,927kWh of clean energy annually - enough to power approximately 350 average UK homes’ electricity annually.

In addition to this output, the system is designed to offset 196 tonnes of CO₂ each year while meeting 27 per cent of Crow Wood’s total electricity demand, significantly advancing their sustainability goals.

Low Carbon Energy, the Burnley-based company behind the project's success are one of the UK’s leading providers of commercial solar-powered renewable energy solutions.

With more than 16 years of experience, their impressive portfolio includes clients such as the NHS, Network Rail, Wagamama, BMW, Tesco, and many more.

Despite facing unforeseen weather challenges during construction, which took place between March and June last year, the project has been a resounding success for both local companies.

Dan Loftus, technical manager at Low Carbon Energy, said: "Being born in Burnley, frequenting Crow Wood and seeing their development over the years, it was wonderful to be involved in the project to reduce both their carbon usage and grid dependency.

"Once we ruled out rooftop panels, overseeing the ground-mounted
system from the design process and into fruition was extremely rewarding.”

Meanwhile Oliver Wood, director at Crow Wood Hotel & Spa, said: “Having seen our existing 50kW system deliver as promised, we had confidence to look at other on-site opportunities with Low Carbon Energy.

"With rising energy use from facility investments and market conditions, this was a strong long-term investment and a Corporate Social Responsibility initiative that resonates with our stakeholders. We're exceptionally pleased with our investments.”

It comes after Lancashire Business View reported in December 2023, that Crow Wood Hotel & Spa Resort announced a partnership with Tree-V, a renowned company specialising in carbon offsetting automotive emissions.

The ground-breaking initiative underscores Crow Wood’s unwavering commitment to environmental sustainability.

In a conscious effort to reduce its carbon footprint, Crow Wood Hotel & Spa Resort had taken the innovative step of carbon offsetting 100 miles of travel for every conference delegate. By partnering with Tree-V, a company dedicated to carbon balancing automotive emissions, Crow Wood aims to mitigate the environmental impact of delegate travel.

Tree-V specialises in protecting forests and the invaluable carbon dioxide (CO2) they store. The partnership entails the preservation of forestry that, in turn, counterbalances emissions from transport commuting to the hotel for conferences or events.
