Local community care provider, Choice Care, held their inaugural Carer Award’s dinner at Ewood Park in Blackburn.

Carer of the Year - Andrew Key, Minhajjuddin Patel, Kate Hollern MP

The prestigious event was held to celebrate and recognise the hard work, dedication and professionalism of their team of carers working in the local communities across Blackburn with Darwen.

Awards were presented by Dawn Goldthorpe NVQ Assessor, Coun Desai, Kate Hollern MP and Choice Care managing director Andrew Key. Categories for the awards were End of Life Carers, Service Users Choice, Long Service and Carer of the Year 2016.

Managing director, Andrew Key, said:“This was an amazing evening for us all, but especially for our carers who absolutely deserved the recognition given. We were keen to show our staff how much we appreciate and value them and we wanted to let everyone know about it!

“As an industry we don’t shout loudly enough about the essential work that our carers do 24/7, 365 days a year, in all weathers and often in very challenging situations.  As a small local business this recognition and celebration of our staff is essential.

“As each carer came up to be presented with their award I remembered doing their initial interviews and felt quite overwhelmed at what we have been able to achieve together. Caring is a demanding job, full of daily challenges and it takes a particular character and unique set of skills to be able to deliver care in a person’s home with consistency and with the highest professionalism.”

Kate Hollern MP said: “I have been mightily impressed by the standard of staff and the general feeling of positivity displayed by all.  I thoroughly enjoyed the evening and wish all of the staff many congratulations on their achievements and successes, it has been great to be a part of this.”

Andrew added: “We would like to build on the success of the awards dinner and continue to promote the work of our carers.  Our vision is that our business is a beacon of what an excellent domiciliary provider should look like in order that we continue to retain our excellent staff and attract others.”

Choice Care was founded in 1999 as Carewatch (Blackburn/Hundburn).  The company rebranded as Choice Care in 2013.  They provide a wide range of social care to people of all ages in their own homes. Choice Care supports local communities by helping people stay at home with independence, choice and dignity, underpinned by highly trained, compassionate home care teams. Choice Care is a member of the United Kingdom Home Care Association, is registered with the Care Quality Commission, Information Commissioner’s Office and are preferred providers for Blackburn with Darwen Borough Council and the Clinical Commissioning Group.
