Rossendale Borough Council has appointed Casey as the main contractor to deliver the Rawtenstall Market redevelopment, a key project within the town’s Masterplan and a major investment in the future of the town centre.

The redevelopment will see the construction and refurbishment of the main market building, alongside the design and build of new external kiosks. Once complete, the improved market will offer high-quality space for traders, events, and visitors, supporting Rawtenstall’s reputation as a thriving destination for shopping, food, and leisure.

Casey will take responsibility for the site from January 2026, with works expected to be completed in early 2027.

As part of the project, local suppliers, trades, and businesses are being encouraged to get involved and support the delivery of the redevelopment. To help connect with local firms, Casey will be holding a “Bidders’ Day” at Rawtenstall Market on Thursday 11 December, from 10am to 1pm.

The session will give local companies the opportunity to learn more about the project, explore supply chain opportunities, and find out how they can get involved.

Councillor Nick Harris, portfolio holder for regeneration, said: “Appointing Casey is a key milestone in making the Rawtenstall Market redevelopment a reality. This is a project that will not only enhance our town centre but also create opportunities for local businesses and tradespeople to play a part in delivering it. We want the benefits of this investment to be felt right across our community – through jobs, skills, and local spend.”

Sue Wilkinson, from Casey, added: “We’re delighted to be working with Rossendale Borough Council on this exciting project. Rawtenstall Market has a strong local identity, and we’re committed to working closely with the council, traders, and the community to ensure the redevelopment reflects that.

"We’re especially keen to involve local suppliers and subcontractors wherever possible, and we hope to see plenty of local businesses at our bidders’ day in December.”
