Lancashire businesses supported Preston South Rotary Club’s annual Golf day which has raised over £4,000 to benefit local charities.

The event was held on Sunday 10th August and has taken place at Penwortham Golf Club every year for the past 32 years.  Over 30 teams of four took part in the day with tee times from  8am to 3pm.

Refreshments donated by James Hall & Co (SPAR) and served by Rotarians were provided at the half way point on the 18 hole course.

In addition to the funds raised from teams, holes sponsors and nearest the pin sponsors, the Rotary Club also held a raffle and auction which included a Corporate experience at a PNE home game kindly donated by FWP.

Winners of the business/company category were the team from Leyland based Whitfire Shavings and Sawdust Suppliers comprising of John Bond, Warren Black, Phil Allen and Carl Smith.

Winners of the four man, ladies or mixed category were Hilary Killen`s team of Lynn Smalley, Hilary Killen, Shirley Blundell, and Priscilla Burley.

Preston South Rotary also aim to donate some of the proceeds to International Aid Trust to help them purchase an ambulance which will be refurbished and driven to Ukraine by one of the club members to help aid workers supporting local communities affected by the war.

Joint event organisers, Rotarians Frank Killen and Tom Dudson, said, “Over the years since the Golf Day started, we have raised around £150K  which has enabled us to support charities including Rainbow Hub, St Catherine’s Hospice, Derian House and Vine House. Each year we have donated to the Penwortham Golf Club`s Captain`s charities which this year are North West Air Ambulance and Rosemere Cancer Foundation.

They continued, “Congratulations to our winners and we would like to thank all the teams who took part, the sponsors, Penwortham Golf Club for their support over the years and everyone who helped with raffle and auction prizes.  We really appreciate your support and look forward to doing it all again next year.”

Preston South Rotary was founded in 1967 and meets lunchtime on the 1st and 3rd Tuesday every month at Penwortham Golf Club.

There are currently 27 active members.

If anyone is interested in joining Preston South Rotary Club or would like further information they should contact the secretary Carole Cochrane CBE. [email protected]

Their aims are to put service before self and come together for good in the community.
