Kukri wins Team England kit contract
South Ribble-based sportswear manufacturer Kukri will design and supply the kit for Team England at the 2022 Commonwealth Games, to be held in Birmingham.
The deal will see the firm clothe more than 600 athletes across 19 sports and eight parasports. It is the third consecutive commonwealth games that Kukri has been named the country's official supplier. For the Gold Coast 2018 games, 38,000 items of kit were produced for Team England, which returned with 136 medals.
Kukri again invited athletes to get involved with the design process, which would have happened in person if not for the coronavirus lockdown. Instead, each was sent a design package consisting of a design book with blank sketch pages and coloured pencils which they filled in and fed back to the team.
A virtual panel was then held online, featuring current and former athletes representing a range of sporting disciplines.
Paul Blanchard, CEO of Commonwealth Games England, said: "With a home games, we know our kit has to be impactful and create a strong image of our Team England values but most importantly the athletes need to feel comfortable in what they perform in.
The range we are designing will be a new chapter in the company’s history and we cannot wait
"It’s been incredible, given the unprecedented impact of Covid-19 that we have been able to engage with so many athletes in an innovative way and I would like to thank our partner governing bodies for their support in this process."
Chris Marshall, director of Sales at Kukri Sports, said: "The England team want to be at the pinnacle of their performance at every competition, so we developed with them. With this in mind, the range we are designing, with the input of the Team England athletes, will be a new chapter in the company’s history and one we cannot wait to launch.”
