Hyndburn Borough Council is inviting residents to take the first step toward transforming their love of cooking into a thriving business with the launch of a new six-week programme designed to empower local women.

The initiative will be introduced at a welcoming “Lady Boss” coffee morning on Wednesday 10th June at Scaitcliffe House, running from 9:30am to 12:30pm.

The free event offers a relaxed and friendly environment where attendees can learn more about the course, connect with like-minded individuals and hear first-hand experiences from previous participants who have successfully completed the programme.

Guests can also enjoy complimentary coffee and cake while exploring how the course can help turn culinary skills into a viable enterprise.

Delivered in partnership between Hyndburn Borough Council and Kind Communities, the programme is tailored specifically to support women with a passion for cooking.

Over six weeks, participants will gain valuable insight into UK catering regulations, food safety training, pricing strategies and legal requirements, alongside practical guidance on building a sustainable food business.

A key feature of the programme is the opportunity upon completion, to form a co-operative business model, providing a supportive and collaborative route into self-employment.

Salma Chaudhry, economic development manager at Hyndburn Borough Council, said: “This innovative programme is about creating accessible opportunities for women who may not see themselves in traditional business spaces.

"We know there is a huge amount of untapped talent in our communities, and this is about providing the right support, in the right way, to help people take that first step.

“The proven success of this model in Preston shows what’s possible when you combine practical support with a strong peer network. We’re really excited to bring this to Hyndburn and see local women benefit from it.”

The initiative forms part of wider efforts to support inclusive economic growth and widen participation in enterprise across the borough.

Funding for this event has been provided by the UK Government through the UK Shared Prosperity Fund.
