Apartments can now be reserved in a Grade II listed mill in Brierfield which is being transformed into a luxury residential development and leisure complex.

Built in 1832, Northlight Mill was a cornerstone of the Industrial Revolution, employing thousands of workers to sustain Lancashire’s booming cotton trade at its peak.

Now, a partnership between Pendle Enterprise and Regeneration Limited (PEARL) and Lancashire construction experts Barnfield is breathing new life into the Victorian landmark, with luxury apartments now under construction.

Elsewhere within the complex, the £4.5 million Leisure Box - Burnley and Pendle’s brand-new community leisure facility - is already open to the public, with a state-of-the-art leisure centre, with an indoor 4G football pitch, climbing walls, soft play areas, sports hall, cricket nets, dance studio, gym and outdoor 3G football pitch.

Construction is well underway on the residential part of the mill, known to many as the Smith and Nephew factory. The first phase of the project will see 36 luxury two-bedroom apartments completed by the end of 2019.

A spokesperson for the project said: “The main objective of the Northlight development is to regenerate the site whilst preserving the important architectural features and character of the mill complex, whilst beginning a successful new chapter with fully functioning buildings that create a new destination for the region.”

Reservations are now being taken on the apartments, which are available to purchase off-plan right now from £139,995. A reservation fee of £2,000 is applicable, with a help to buy option available.

Canalside and streetside options are available to buyers, with furniture packages on offer for investors looking for a hassle-free asset to add to their residential portfolio.

The light-filled building will incorporate contemporary interior design while honouring the building’s original features. Apartments are being finished to the highest standard, with designer kitchens and bathrooms and superior quality fittings. Residents will also benefit from a 24-hour concierge service.

All residents will benefit from a free 12-month membership to an on-site gym within the apartment building, and plans are also underway to develop a coffee shop, bar, shops and more to the complex.

Northlight Mill will offer residents easy access straight onto the M65 by car and convenient public transport links, thanks to its location directly opposite Brierfield rail station, with a direct service to Preston. For commuters, Northlight is located just 45 minutes’ drive from Manchester city centre.

Northlight Mill will also feature an on-site business and co-working centre with office space ranging from 100 sq ft to 1000 sq ft, suitable for every kind of business - from startups to large corporations.

Contemporary workspaces will be designed to “inspire collaboration, creativity and a culture of innovation” and will include concierge, superfast broadband, free parking, event spaces, designer kitchens, artisan coffee, boardrooms and quiet breakout zones.

A spokesperson said: “Northlight Mill is set to be an exciting new destination for East Lancashire. Perfect for individuals who crave the luxury and convenience of city centre apartment living within the beautiful Lancashire countryside, it’s seen huge interest so far from a range of people.

“Young professionals are excited about a place with a real buzz, while retired individuals are seeing it as a great place to downsize with everything they need on their doorstep. Investors are seeing it as a prime buy-to-let asset to their portfolio.

“Northlight will create a new kind of community and destination which pays tribute to our past while looking forward to an incredibly bright future.”

With a show apartment due to open soon, anyone interested in buying an apartment at Northlight Mill is advised to book a viewing of the mill complex.
