Glendale to continue partnership with Lewisham Council

In 2000 Glendale was selected to deliver services to transform Lewisham’s public spaces, including the investment of £1.5m over three years. The contract was the first Parks Management Contract where the contractor has responsibility for the events management, sports development, and maintenance.

There is an extensive marketing programme for local communities, whereby community involvement and consultation, provide the cornerstones of the partnership.

Glendale’s partnership with the council has attracted national recognition for putting parks and open spaces at the heart of local communities. A unique combination of proven green expertise, investment, innovation, and accountability, has successfully met the challenge to revitalise Lewisham’s green spaces. Lewisham currently boasts 16 Green Flag parks and has maintained a top 3 position in the annual Good Parks for London Report since it was created in 2017.

To facilitate partnerships, like this one at Lewisham, Glendale has developed Annual Service Development Plans for existing contracts. These are designed to provide targets which are measurable and can be communicated to all stakeholders.

A spokesperson at Glendale said: “Our measurable culture is a feature at all levels in our business as we believe “what isn’t measured doesn’t get done”. The specific of each area is discussed and agreed with each client based on their priorities.”

Successfully being re-awarded the contract in 2010 for a further 10 years the foundations of the partnership with Lewisham had already been laid.  In 2020 the contract was further extended for 3 more years. A 23 year, award winning partnership that is still seen as ground breaking today and has re-engineered Lewisham’s parks team into one of the best in the country.
