GEM UK acquired by Bury trading partner

GEM UK Mailing Solutions of Tarleton has been acquired by The Mailing Room (TMR) of Bury for an undisclosed sum.

GEM services hundreds SMEs, local authorities and multinationals across the north, supplying mailroom products and services including automatic letter folding and inserting machines for bulk mailings, polywrap packaging equipment for magazines, newsletters and catalogues, and mailroom ancillaries like shredders, letter openers and booklet makers.

TMR is a leading independent distributor of franking machines and mailroom equipment, and the acquisition marks the fourth purchase in recent history as it continues its ambitious expansion plan.

GEM’s senior personnel Alex Muir and Pat Casson will join TMR to assist with the transition process and, long-term, help accelerate the group’s five-year growth programme.

Ian Davidson, group managing director at TMR, said: “GEM is one of our long-standing trading partners, supporting the sales and maintenance of the Neopost folding and inserting range for our own customer base, and we know there will be a good natural fit between the two organisations."

GEM's existing customers will doubtless discover increased opportunities for mailroom productivity.

Ian explained that the purchase will expand both TMR's geographical reach as well as its service offering. The developing folder-inserter sector, which is enjoying growth due to the increasing influence of GDPR, is of particular interest.

He added: “GEM’s existing customers and reseller network will doubtless discover increased opportunities for mailroom productivity amongst TMR’s broader product offering of digital franking machines and parcel shipping solutions, as well as instant online access to OEM-compatible inks and consumables."
