Eric Wright delivers £23M high school project

Preston-based Eric Wright Construction is set to complete a two year project to rebuild a state-of-the-art secondary school in Blackpool.

Highfield Humanities College sits in the centre of South Shore, Blackpool and offers a community learning centre boasting a 15,000sqm footprint with features including open plan atria spaces and A-rated energy efficiency.

Designed by Feilden Clegg Bradley Studios, Bath, the £23m project was built under a Private Finance Initiative (PFI) with Blackpool Local Education Partnership and the college developing plans and layouts.

As part of the construction works, the teachers and students shared in the progress with regular site visits and frequent updates from the HHCTV student television station.

Eric Wright Construction completed all internal work before pupils started the Autumn term in September. External areas due to be finished this month. Brent Knox from Eric Wright Construction said “This is another project where we have worked in partnership with our sister company, Eric Wright Facilities Management, who are now responsible for general upkeep of the college for the next 25 years and providing school meals for three years.”
