Eric Wright completes stadium redevelopment

Preston-based Eric Wright Construction, a division of leading construction, civil engineering and property development firm, the Eric Wright Group, has finished work on the new £24m, state-of-the-art stadium and surrounding activity complex, Allianz Park, home of Saracens rugby club.

Saracens v Cardiff Blues, Hendon 27/01/2013The multi-million pound project in Barnet, north London, includes a contemporary artificial playing pitch, making Saracens the first professional rugby union club in the world to play on entirely artificial turf.

The first fixture at the new 10,000 seater stadium took place against Exeter Chiefs on February 16 this year.

Built to combine modern technology with the best traditions of the sport, the complex comprises wider seating, an indoor training area which can be converted into a match-day bar with screens showing other games, a new PA system, a children’s crèche, shops and food outlets.

The multi-sport venue, which is supported by Sport England, the Rugby Football Union and UK Athletics, will be used for community sport for 340 days of the year for club and elite athletics and Premiership rugby. It will also provide a shot putt throw area, cross-country routes, triple and long-jump areas, indoor cricket nets, and studios for martial arts and dance classes.

Known by Saracens as a ‘true community sports centre’, Allianz Park is an effective hub for local youngsters who will also be given the opportunity to use the same changing rooms as the professional Saracens rugby players, intended to help motivate and inspire them to play more sport.

John Wilson, managing director of Eric Wright Construction, said: “The completion of this project adds to our outstanding portfolio and expertise in the construction of sports facilities.

“This is a fantastic development which is much more than just a stadium and I strongly recommend people to go and visit the new facilities which will benefit local people in the area and beyond.” Speaking of the work undertaken, Saracens chairman, Nigel Wray, said: “Eric Wright Construction have indeed been outstanding partners in our Allianz Park project. They have had to combat virtually every form of weather since commencing in June and, in my experience, have for a London development completed things in almost breakneck speed! But certainly with no loss of quality and always with good manners, hard work, intelligence and humour. It’s been a really excellent partnership.”
