Supporters will now have the opportunity to make a donation to the Burnley Community Kitchen foodbank at every home fixture.

Working in partnership with Burnley FC Supporters Groups and Up the Clarets, the Burnley Community Kitchen – operated by the Club’s official charity, Burnley FC in the Community – will have wheelie bin collection points dotted about Turf Moor for fans to drop food donations pre-match.

The Clarets Supporting Foodbanks initiative will be rolled out from the upcoming Liverpool fixture on Saturday 31stAugust.

The Burnley Community Kitchen, located in Burnley town centre, is inclusive of the town’s foodbank, a community café and a teaching kitchen; and aims to deliver positive change of the people of Burnley, using food as the catalyst.

Since its opening, the Burnley Community Kitchen has fed over 900 people, including almost 300 children.

Tony Scholes, spokesman for Burnley FC Supporters Groups, said: “Burnley FC Supporters Groups and Up the Clarets have recently become aware of the vital work being done by Burnley FC in the Community through the Burnley Community Kitchen and we felt that we could offer our help in a similar way to supporters groups at other football clubs.

“We hope that Burnley supporters get behind this initiative and that the planned matchday collections of much-needed food items will help the Community Kitchen to continue and enhance the support they give to those who are most in need.”

Anita Orchard, Community Kitchen Manager, said: “We’re delighted that the Burnley FC Supporters Groups and Up the Clarets have chosen to support our efforts at the foodbank.

“We are working with some of the neediest people in the town and these donations are vitally important in terms of ensuring we can keep providing that support to people in our community.”

Fans are asked to bring non-perishable donations of the following items:

Tinned meat and fish Tinned fruit and vegetables Tinned beans and spaghetti Tinned or packet soup Tea and coffee Long life UHT milk and juice Dried or tinned pet food Toiletries / household items

The Burnley Community Kitchen can be found at Unit 83 (above New Look) in the Upper Market Square of Charter Walk Shopping Centre and contacted at [email protected] or on 01282 448577.
