On Thursday 24th November, Cummins Mellor hosted their annual charity quiz in aid of Blackburn and Darwen Youth Zones. Over 50 teams were welcomed to Accrington Stanley FC’s new 1968 Lounge & Coley's Bar for this year’s #BDYZQuiz which was donated free of charge.

Due to the pandemic, this was the first time in three years they were able to host an in-person event. Teams from the Cummins Mellor Family of Businesses; Cummins Mellor, Chefs Jobs UK and Personnel Checks all volunteered their time to ensure the quiz ran smoothly.

After six rounds, the quiz went to a tense tie-break for first place between Enfield Cricket Club and Steon Lighting, with Enfield coming out on top to take the title for 2022. The pair were closely followed by Signature Tax in 3rd place and Graham & Brown in 4th.

The event raised an incredible £20,610 to help support the Blackburn and Darwen Youth Zone’s Employability Hub. The Hub team is made up of employment coaches, youth workers and health and wellbeing professionals. So far, they have helped over 900 young people in Blackburn with Darwen overcome barriers to education, employment or training.

Jack Mellor, managing director of Personnel Checks said: “After two virtual quizzes during the pandemic, it’s been great to have the quiz back in the flesh. Our staff have put so much effort to make sure this year’s quiz was a success. Seeing over 50 teams come together to raise money for such a brilliant cause makes all the hard work worth it."

Katie Mellor, managing director of Cummins Mellor and CJUK, said: “This year’s quiz has been a great success. Despite the cost-of-living crisis, we’ve seen incredible generosity from local people and businesses. A big thank you to everyone who attended, donated raffle prizes or bought a raffle ticket. We also couldn’t have done it without the kind venue donation from Accrington Stanley FC."

Melanie Thomas, fundraising development manager at Blackburn and Darwen Youth Zones, said: “The Cummins Mellor quiz is always a highlight in our events calendar. Their staff go out of their way to host an incredible event and raise much-needed funds for our employability hub. Thank you, Cummins Mellor, and everyone who helped make the event such a success.”

This year’s BDYZ Quiz might officially be over, but planning is already underway for next year's event, which will be even bigger and better.
