City Games set for Preston in June

As the host of the successful UK Corporate Games in 2012 and building on the legacy of the fantastic Guild celebrations, Preston will now hold its own City Games on Saturday June, 8 2013.

City GamesThe multi-sport one-day event is aimed at businesses in Preston and surrounding areas, and will see individuals and teams competing in nine different disciplines.

Working in partnership, Preston City Council and the University of Central Lancashire (UCLan) want the business community to come together to participate in sport and physical activity, utilising the city’s first class facilities and sports infrastructure.

Prestonian and former Olympian Helen Clitheroe is the patron of the Preston City Games, and will be on hand to cheer everyone on and hand out trophies to the winners.

Guild mayor of Preston, Councillor Carl Crompton, said: “This is a fantastic legacy of the Guild and the enormous success of last year’s Corporate Games.

“I would encourage all local businesses to sign up and take part in the Preston City Games. Not only is it a chance for people to compete and achieve success in sport, it is a chance for us as a city to show, once again, exactly what Preston can achieve by working together.” Adrian Ibbetson, academic director of Sport at UCLan, added: “We see this very much as a legacy from the European City of Sport and Guild year. This is an opportunity to further promote participation in sport and physical activity from our business community which has positives for both the individual and the organisations involved.”
